I cant believe how much I ended up reading in February; I actually caught up on my Goodreads reading goal which I’m super proud and happy about. For once, and I don’t think I have ever done this, I managed to read a whole trilogy of books in just one month; and I have to say that I think it might just be one of my favourite ever trilogies! So that’s get into the seven books that I read in February. So unsurprisingly, the first book that I ended up finishing was the first of the trilogy that I read this month, and that is The Kiss of Deception by Mary E Pearson. It was just absolutely fabulous! I have been wanting to read this book for ages but have always struggled to find a copy, but finally I did and jumped into it pretty much as soon as it arrived. This book did not let me down at all, and for once it was actually a romance story that I could fully get behind and was just so heart wrenching. As you can probably guess, this was a super easy 5 star read for me, and I have a full review for this one if you want to go read it here.
The other series that I have got into so far this year is The Falling Kingdoms series by Morgan Rhodes, which was my favourite read for January. So, I picked up Rebel Spring by Morgan Rhodes, which was also amazing. Although, I didn’t find this one quite as good as the first, but it was still a very strong sequel and four or four and a half star read. Its kept me really into the series, and I am hoping to get the rest of the series for my birthday so that I can marathon it either in March or April. Full review for Falling Kingdoms can be read here.
As always with me, after a couple of high fantasy books, I was in the mood for a quick read so I went back to my TBR and read the first Miss Peregrines graphic novel. I find it hard to talk about graphic novels too much as I always enjoy them and normally will of read the novel first. This was a 4 star read, nothing wrong with it but nothing special.
I then went into full marathon mood on the Remnant chronicles, and jumped into the Heart of Betrayal by Mary E Pearson. Wow this series just grabbed hold of me with two hands and just didn’t let me go (even now that I’ve finished it). During these books, my sleep pattern goes out of the window and I become very antisocial- though I’m not bothered about that when it comes to a good book. This was a four and half star read, just because there was a slight break in the book where it dragged, but I’m talking literally 40 pages if that.
Well here is a surprise, I then snatched up The Beauty of Darkness. Oh wow, this was the best possible conclusion to this series, I loved it so much! I have felt like I’m in a reading slump ever since I finished it. Just no book that I look to pick up seems like its going to be good enough for me to read- anyone else have this problem when they finish such a fabulous series? Also I’m thinking I might do a full series review, would you like that? Obviously this was a full on FIVE star read.
Would appear that February was the month of series reading for me, as I then picked up the Hollow City graphic novel. Just like the first one, I have little to say, although, I was less happy with this one, as they cut out my favourite part of the book, so it just ended up not being the same. So this one was only a 3 star read.
MY final read of the month was my biggest disappointment which even now I’m so frustrated about; and that book was Dark Tracks by Philippa Gregory. Philippa is one of my absolute favourite authors, but the Order of Darkness series is just one that I cant get myself to love. The first couple of books were alright, but I just feel like I’m getting more distant from it. I think I’ve decided that the problem is the YA genre. Some of the topics that it touches on, just need to be gone into in more detail so you can see more of what happened in the past. I gave this a very generous 3 stars if I’m honest. The more I think about it the more I think it needed to be a 2 star.
So that was my successful reading month of February, I cant promise that March will be as good. I’m in this reading slump, and although enjoying my current read, I just cant find the motivation to read. But we’ll see. What did you read in February?
