September Wrap Up & Banned-Bookathon

Well this is going to be a little embarrassing… After the success of August I seemed to of fallen of the wagon a little, and fell into a little bit of a reading slump- BOO!! However, I have many thanks for the Banned Book-athon, which seems to of broken me out of it pretty quick…So I was not exaggerating, I managed to finish a grand total of ONE book in September before the read-athon, and I cant even claim that it was some long 700+ page novel. Nope, it was New Moon: Graphic Novel Vol 1…

Well I think that that’s best just left there now, I’ll move onto what I accomplished during the Banned Book-athon. If you haven’t seen my posts about it previously, then it is a readathon hosted by Katriona at Little Book Owl, where the aim is to read banned or challenged books.

I didn’t stick to the aim with my first two books as I had deadlines with these two and just needed to get them read, so used the readathon to get this done.

Pride and Prejudice Graphic Novel…

Now as far as I’m aware Jane Austen nor Pride and Prejudice have never been banned. However I had hold of this from the library, and wanted to get through it and return it. The artwork in this was fantastic, and was a really enjoyable way of rereading this book, I gave it 5 out of 5 stars.

The Vanishing Year by Kate Moretti…

This is a new thriller released by Titan Books the other week, and is definitely worth a read. Being the first thriller I have read in a very long time, and has put me right in the mood for more just in time for spooky season! I have written a full review but following a newly married woman who is trying to forget about her past at a time when it is sneaking back up on her. I gave this four stars, but is a really gripping exciting thriller!!

Black Beauty…

This is the well known children’s classic that is well known for the movie. However before that, it was banned in some countries purely for the words ‘black’ and ‘beauty’ being within the title. Living up to the movie, this was a really good, yet emotional read; I ended up giving it 4 stars.

Saga Volume 1…

Being banned for its sexual content, and the singular image of a gay couple, I have to admit that although I enjoyed the story, I was not the biggest fan of the art work in this one. In the end I gave it 3 stars for this reason.

Deathnote vols5&6…

I adore this series, so was happy to take the excuse of a readathon to continue it. This was possibly the best one yet! In the past this has been banned due to the violence involved, as well as because of a suicide of a young teen who was found to of read this series. And although I’m pretty sad I said it before, I’m sad that I’m going to have to wait till probably Christmas until I get hold of the next bindup… I gave this one 5 out of 5 stars.

House of Night: Legacy…

This is another graphic novel that I read as I felt I had to include the only book series to be banned before it was even written in my TBR. I chose this one as I have already read the entire series other than this one. This was banned due again to sexual content, which I have to say I did not think was that bad… But it does fall into the diverse category with the main character being a native American. I loved this just like I did the main series, but the artwork was not really my preference, so I rated this 3 out of 5 stars.

So it was mainly graphic novels that I read this month, but that seems to of worked to get me out of the mini slump I had fallen into. I’ll publish my October TBR later this month

  1. Don’t worry hun, we ALL go through reading slumps. Mine lasted THREE months this year, where I didn’t read a single book. It was horrible. But happy to report I’m well out of the slump now. Haha. The Vanishing Year looks really good, right up my street, I’ll have to check it out! xx
